Start your journey with a flight from the Candadian side of Saganaga Lake to the northernmost part of Quetico Provincial Park, French Lake! From there you will start your journey into the wilderness, headed west along a small river towards Pickerel Lake. You’ll want to find your first campsite here. Once you get set up, test your luck at walleye and trout fishing on this lake. The many islands through the lake make great shelter for fishing!

The next morning, start your journey south with your first portage being about 90 rods around a man-made dam! You’ll make your way through Bisk, Beg, and Fern lake into Olifaunt, where you will head south towards Russell and make camp near the beautiful Chatterton Falls.

You’ll make your way from Russell through the portage past Chatterton Falls into Keats, Shelley, and eventually into Kawnipi. Congrats, you are about halfway through your trip at this point, and you have now reached the start of the Falls Chain! Your next day will be spent traversing Kawnipi into the Maligne River. You can make camp when you reach Kenny Lake, or continue on and take advantage of the long summer days until you reach Saganagons. Take your time on these portages, as you will be travelling upstream through falls that can move quickly in high water years.

From Saganagons, you will head towards the Silver Falls portage, an 120 rod portage straight uphill! Your reward along the way are beautiful views of one of Quetico’s largest waterfalls, so take your time and enjoy the sights. If you got an early start today you will have time to stop at the Pictographs in Cache Bay and maybe stop by the ranger station to meet the wonderful Quetico rangers and share the tales of your journey. From there, your tow boat will be waiting to pick you up at Hook Island to bring you back to Voyaguer for a shower and perhaps a pizza or a tap beer!
