MCEWEN

Glacier, Wet, McEwen
Quetico Entry Point: Falls Chain
Minimum Trip Length: 4 Days

Maps Required:

  • Fisher: F18, F19
  • McKenzie: M6-A, M25, M26

This route begins at the very start of the Falls Chain, so it requires a Falls Chain Quetico permit. We recommend taking a tow to Hook Island and spending your first night on Saganagons to break up your travel days. On day two, you’ll cross three portages toward the Maligne River. High water levels can make this section challenging and dangerous, so be sure to check with us and the Quetico Park rangers for updated conditions.

After passing through the Maligne, you’ll portage into Wet Lake, where you’ll find several great campsite options. You can stay here for the night or continue on to McEwen Lake. McEwen is known for its deep, clear waters and offers excellent fishing for Lake Trout and Smallmouth Bass. From there, follow the narrow and scenic McEwen Creek into Glacier Lake. Here, you’ll find beautiful campsites and peaceful solitude.

For a bit of adventure, consider a day trip to some of the small neighboring lakes for fishing. This is an out-and-back route, so you’ll return to Saganagons the same way. We recommend a minimum of four days for this route, but 5–7 days will give you more time to relax and enjoy fishing!
