If you are looking to get away from the crowds and do a basecamp fishing trip, this route is for you! We recommend starting this trip in the morning with a tow to Hook Island. From there, you will paddle about 1 hour to the Cache Bay Ranger Station to pick up your Quetico permit and meet the rangers. They will give you any last minute campsite closure or portage information. You’ll head through Cache Bay to the famous Silver Falls portage. This portage is about 120 rods straight downhill. Don’t forget to set down your gear for a few minutes to get a good view of the roaring falls. After completing the Silver Falls portage you can find camp on Saganagons. We recommend heading to the far east end to get away from groups travelling through. After you’ve spend a few nights and likely had a few fish fries, you will head back the same way to get picked up at Hook Island on your last day. Don’t miss the pictographs in Cache Bay on your way out!
